Tibetan Acupressure
A New Approach to an Ancient Art
Tibetan
Acupressure System Sessions
Tibetan
Acupressure System (TAS) is an ancient system of reflexive
pressure point healing, which accesses the body’s natural
corrective energies in order to bring balance to the body as a
whole.
The
reflex points are found within the four main maps of the body,
the feet, hands, head and shoulder blades. These
points are directly related to all of the body systems and
internal organs as well as the meridian pathways. The
practitioner of Tibetan Acupressure applies rapid finger
pressure to specific reflex points resulting in a restorative
effect in the body and encouraging an increase in energy and
relaxation.

The
recipient remains clothed and seated upright in a chair. The
focus, breath, and intent of the practitioner are additional
dynamics used in the system; these contribute to the overall
vitality of the healing experience.
An
entire Tibetan Acupressure System (TAS) classical treatment
takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. The
system is subtle, profound and especially efficient at
eliminating pain and restoring a sense of well-being to the
client.
Sessions
can be done in person or remotely.

Tibetan
Acupressure System
A
New Approach to an Ancient Art
Article by

For thousands
of years the Tibetan nomads took their herds of yaks up and down
the sides of the highest mountains in the world, moving with the
seasons for grazing. Historically, the conditions were among the
most brutal that human beings have endured. Diseases and
injuries were plentiful and the environment offered little to
support the healing traditions. Using the elemental earth
connection, meditative concentration, the stimulation of
pre-acupuncture reflex point therapy, local herbs and prayers,
the Bon shaman kept the tribe healthy physically, mentally and
spiritually.
When Indian
teachers brought Buddhism over the
Himalayas
, they brought new medical knowledge too. The basic practices of
the Indian Ayer Veda and the rudimentary medical knowledge of
the Bon shaman were blended. The basic physical practices from
these ancient times were simple to learn, easy to administer,
effective and can to this day, be applied under the most
challenging environmental conditions.
The Tibetan
Acupressure System (TAS) is an ancient system of reflexive
pressure point healing, harkening back to the times of the
Tibetan nomad. TAS accesses the body’s natural corrective
energies in order to bring balance to the body as a whole. This
system can be used to treat specific conditions or for the
overall well being of the body and mind.
The reflex
points used in Tibetan Acupressure are found within the main
maps of the body; the feet, legs, hands, arms, shoulders, head
and back. The practitioner delivering the treatment becomes
mindful in order to connect with the body and breath of the
person being treated. Rapid finger pressure is
applied to reflex points in a specified sequence generating an
electrical response in the body. Unlike reflexology or other
types of acupressure, there is no pressure or holding, the body
responds reflexively to the point stimulation and the energy
ripples through the entire body of both partners participating
in the treatment, similar to a circuit.
Although the
system can be integrated into bodywork on a massage table, in
the classical style, the recipient remains clothed and seated
upright in a chair. The practitioner accesses the reflex points
by using the tip of the index finger and occasionally the thumb,
adding a twist of the wrist to deepen the contact. Because the
points require only a quick, deep and penetrating touch,
professional body workers who have had finger or wrist injury
due to the mechanical stress of their work can deliver this
system with ease.
The mindful
focus, breath and intent of the practitioner are important
dynamics used in the application of the system. Tibetan
acupressure works through four dimensions, one dimension goes up
and down (from head to toe and reverse), another from side to
side, a third from front to back and reverse. The fourth
dimension is used in distance healing.
An entire TAS
classical treatment takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. A CD version of
the system may be played while administering the treatment to
increase the focus of the practitioner and enhance the
relaxation of the client.
The TAS
reflex protocols are extremely useful for massage therapists who
wish to integrate them into their existing massage sequence or
to add another modality of treatment, if used in its classical
form. Nurses, palliative care workers and caregivers will also
find the system easy to learn and useful for reducing chronic
pain.
TAS is
effective in reducing:
- chronic
pain
- insomnia
- depression
and anxiety
- mental
and emotional distress
- shoulder
and back tension
- PMS
and menopausal symptoms
- digestive
disorders including reflux, heartburn, constipation and IBS
- environmental
allergies
- back
pain including sciatica
- headaches/migraines
- cancer/to
support immune response and reduce localized pain
